Feature Complete-ish
I did not think I would get this done. I've started and stopped on projects like this too many times to count; look at Colour out of Sierra, I posted that 3 years ago! Off the top of my head I can think of at least 5 other different attempts to build something similar. I always get to the point where I have an environment that you can completely explore, but stop short of adding gameplay.
What helped was planning to participate in the 32 bit spring cleaning jam, I've been aware of it for a while but always held back. Scoping was important too, because I used 5 pre-made environments that were already tied together I could just focus on implementation. Also the encouragement of friends and colleagues went a long way, it helped motivate me to stick with it.
I'm calling it done a bit early, I want to save time for bug fixing and polishing next weekend, if need be. I could build more things from here, there's much more opportunity for interactivity in the world that exists now. I could take it further too, expand the area after the demo. Maybe I will. I might also start on a new project, with some proper planning ahead of time. Actually try writing something cohesive. Regardless, this has been a fun project and I've loved sharing the progress with the 32 bit jam community.
